Small magnitude 3.0 quake hits 19 miles northeast of Skwentna, Alaska, United States in the evening

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near Skwentna, Matanuska-Susitna County, Alaska, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Wednesday 20 January 2021 at 8:49 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 45 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Skwentna (pop. 37, 19 miles away), and Susitna North (pop. 1,300, 41 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
