Small 3.0 quake hits near Châteauroux, Indre, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Just 12 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Châteauroux, Indre, Centre-Val de Loire, France. The tremor was recorded late at night on Friday 23 April 2021 at 10:51 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.

The event was filed by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ciron (pop. 580) located 3 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bélâbre (pop. 1000) located 10 km from the epicenter, Le Blanc (pop. 7,000) 11 km away, Saint-Gaultier (pop. 2,000) 15 km away, and Argenton-sur-Creuse (pop. 5,300) 24 km away. In Châteauroux (pop. 53,300, 42 km away), Châtellerault (pop. 37,200, 55 km away), and Poitiers (pop. 86,000, 67 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
