An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred only 9 minutes ago 24 miles southeast of Bellingham, Washington, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
3.3 quake 26 Apr 12:50 am (GMT -7)
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington, USA, after midnight on Monday 26 April 2021 at 12:50 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Lyman (pop. 450) located 5 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sedro-Woolley (pop. 10,800) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Mount Vernon (pop. 34,100) 19 miles away, and Bellingham (pop. 85,100) 24 miles away. In Anacortes (pop. 16,400, 28 miles away), Arlington (pop. 18,900, 28 miles away), and Everett (pop. 108,000, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
