Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported a magnitude 3.1 quake in Australia near St George Ranges, Derby-West Kimberley, Western Australia, 38 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Wednesday 9 June 2021 at 10:58 pm local time at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In St George Ranges (pop. 1,200, 41 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
