The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Turkey near Konya, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Monday, November 8th, 2021, at 8:43 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 4.9, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.1.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Derbent (pop. 7,900) located 26 km from the epicenter, and Konya (pop. 875,500) 30 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Beyşehir (pop. 44,500) located 40 km from the epicenter, Kadınhanı (pop. 15,300) 48 km away, Seydişehir (pop. 51,100) 51 km away, Ilgın (pop. 27,400) 56 km away, Çumra (pop. 45,700) 61 km away, Şarkîkaraağaç (pop. 32,800) 75 km away, and Akşehir (pop. 64,400) 89 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
