Nelson / Moderate shaking (MMI V) : We were in social studies class, working on our topic: Natural Disasters. Our teacher had just said \"Natural disaster\" when the room started shaking. My class all got under their desks and we waited it out. The lights were still swinging 10 minutes after the shaking stopped.
Seddon (94 km NE of epicenter) [Map] / Violent shaking (MMI IX)
Blenheim (28.6 km NNW of epicenter) [Map] / Strong shaking (MMI VI) : was in car outside school waiting to collect children. Car was bouncing side to side on the road. Unable to drive.
Waikanae / Strong shaking (MMI VI) : The ground started with a shake and then it went into a roll like effect and unlike other quakes/last month's 6+ quake it seemed to go quiet like it was going to stop but the rolling increased and then shaking that seemed to go on for a long time before a strong shake. The other difference with this quake compared to the 6+ quake last month was the aftershock in this area was not felt till some time later nearly 45mins later. The aftershock last month was felt in a 15 minute timeframe. Perhaps

Paraparaumu, Wellington, New Zealand / Moderate shaking (MMI V) : It started slowly, and then suddenly rocked the building. Power went out for about 10 seconds.
Blenheim New Zealand / Strong shaking (MMI VI) : Was at work and walking through doorway, was thrown against door and back to door frame. It was a scary shake! Light items moved , pictures fall off walls and vases fell.
