An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred early evening on Sunday 7 February 2021 at 6:05 pm local time near Minatitlan, Minatitlán, Veracruz, Mexico, as reported by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate to considerable depth of 155 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Arroyo de la Palma (pop. 500, 3 km away), Jaltipan de Morelos (pop. 32,800, 40 km away), Cosoleacaque (pop. 22,500, 43 km away), Minatitlan (pop. 112,000, 45 km away), Acayucan (pop. 50,900, 46 km away), Nanchital de Lazaro Cardenas del Rio (pop. 25,300, 58 km away), Coatzacoalcos (pop. 236,000, 65 km away), and Las Choapas (pop. 42,700, 69 km away), the quake was probably not felt.

Info: The more agencies report about the same quake and post similar data, the more confidence you can have in the data. It takes normally up to a few hours until earthquake parameters are calculated with near-optimum precision.
