Indonesia was shaken near Metro, Lampung, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 only 13 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 392 km beneath the epicenter near Metro, Lampung, Indonesia, around noon on Friday 12 February 2021 at 1:37 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Terbanggi Besar (pop. 52,600, 71 km away), Metro (pop. 149,500, 90 km away), Kotabumi (pop. 42,400, 93 km away), Bandar Lampung (pop. 800,300, 125 km away), and Bandar Lampung (pop. 800,300, 125 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
