An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 11 minutes ago 35 km southeast of Owase, Japan, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 402.8 km beneath the epicenter near Owase, Owase Shi, Mie, Japan, early morning on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 2:45 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Owase (pop. 22,000, 35 km away), Shingū (pop. 31,600, 50 km away), Ise (pop. 97,300, 70 km away), Nabari (pop. 88,100, 90 km away), Sakurai (pop. 63,000, 91 km away), Tsu (pop. 163,500, 95 km away), Kashihara-shi (pop. 124,500, 95 km away), and Tenri (pop. 71,100, 99 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
