Mauna Loa volcano (Big Island, Hawaii): weekly volcanic activity report 29 May-4 Jun 2020

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 87 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the volcano's upper elevations over the past week. Most of these events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 kilometers (~3 miles) below ground level, with the strongest earthquake measuring magnitude 2.3 on the morning of March 19. This earthquake was located in the radial vents area west of the summit caldera within the volcano. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 156 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the volcano's upper elevations over the past week. Most of these earthquakes occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 kilometers (~3 miles) below ground level. The strongest even was a magnitude 2.27 in the morning of March 8. This particular earthquake was located in the radial vents west of the summit caldera within the volcano 0.5 km (0.4 miles) above sea level.
