Mauna Loa volcano (Hawai'i): HVO weekly report

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 42 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the Mauna Loa's upper elevations. Most of these events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 km (~3 miles) below ground level. There were no events on Mauna Loa above magnitude 2.0. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded around 87 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the volcano's upper elevations over the past week. Most of these events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 kilometers (~3 miles) below ground level, with the strongest earthquake measuring magnitude 2.3 on the morning of March 19. This earthquake was located in the radial vents area west of the summit caldera within the volcano.
