Background

An area of around 5500 km2 is covered by the broad lava plains and cones of the McBride volcanic province. The 164 volcanic centers form a broad topographic dome. One lava flow traveled 160 km from Undara crater. The youngest volcano is dated 70,000-50,000 BP (Stephenson, in Johnson et al. 1989).
