Mount Rainier volcano (Washington, USA) activity update: M 2.4 shallow earthquake beneath the north rim of East Crater on 13 Sep

Un terremoto di 2.4 m si è verificato sotto la vetta del Monte Rainier a 08:45 PDT, 13 settembre e fu seguito da una decina di assestamento sopra il prossimo ~ 20 minuti.
Secondo la rete sismica di Pacific Northwest (http://pnsn.org), il terremoto di 2.4 m era invece situato sotto il bordo settentrionale del cratere est a ~2.7 km di profondità. Tali terremoti, mentre non comune, non sono senza precedenti a Mount Rainier - M > 2 terremoti si verificano circa una volta all'anno in media sotto la vetta di Ranieri, con il più recente è un 2.9 m su 14 ottobre 2011 e un 2.2 m su 25 ottobre 2011. La posizione e la profondità del terremoto del 13/09/2012 M 2.4 sono interamente coerente con Ranieri terremoti del passato, e tali eventi sono considerati da CVO e la PNSN parte del background "normale" livello di attività a Mount Rainier.
