Magnitude 4.2 quake near LA wakes up thousands

User locations reporting the quake and USGS shakemap
User locations reporting the quake and USGS shakemap
A light earthquake occurred minutes ago at 7.9 km depth beneath San Fernando (northwestern LA area). Due to its shallow depth and the high density of population, thousands of people have felt the tremor, many being woken up from sleep.
Fortunately, the quake is small enough that it is not expected to cause any significant damage.
Reports indicate that a rumbling sound came from earth's depths before two sharp shakes could be felt.
