3.0 quake 30 Apr 5:15 am (GMT -5)
An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred early morning on Friday 30 April 2021 at 5:15 am local time near Midland, Midland County, Texas, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Midland (pop. 133,000) located 8 miles from the epicenter, and Gardendale (pop. 1,600) 15 miles away. In Stanton (pop. 2,900, 21 miles away), Odessa (pop. 119,000, 22 miles away), West Odessa (pop. 22,700, 28 miles away), Andrews (pop. 13,800, 28 miles away), Big Spring (pop. 28,900, 40 miles away), and Lamesa (pop. 9,400, 45 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
