An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 20 minutes ago 53 km southeast of Pinotepa Nacional, Mexico, Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 26 km beneath the epicenter near Pinotepa Nacional, Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico, early morning on Tuesday 6 July 2021 at 2:40 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in La Cruz Isabel (Barrio Grande) (pop. 60) located 1 km from the epicenter, La Luz (pop. 2,400) 2 km away, Santa Rosa de Lima (pop. 2,200) 6 km away, Rio Grande (pop. 12,900) 22 km away, Santiago (pop. 10,100) 29 km away, and San Miguel Panixtlahuaca (pop. 5,700) 29 km away.
