Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake 81 km northeast of Port-Olry, Vanuatu

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 4.8 quake in Vanuatu near Port-Olry, Sanma Province, only 22 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, at 12:16 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 69 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Port-Olry (pop. 2,000) located 81 km from the epicenter, Santo (pop. 13,400) 104 km away, and Sola (pop. 1,200) 107 km away.
