Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 47 km northwest of Vesoul, France around noon

France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported a magnitude 3.8 quake in France near Vesoul, Haute-Saône, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, only 16 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Sunday, November 28th, 2021, at 12:04 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Belmont (pop. 48) located 1 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Langres (pop. 8,600) located 22 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bourbonne-les-Bains (pop. 2,200) located 31 km from the epicenter, Gray (pop. 7,400) 31 km away, Val-de-Meuse (pop. 2,200) 31 km away, Vesoul (pop. 19,900) 47 km away, Chaumont (pop. 29,000) 52 km away, and Chenôve (pop. 15,800) 62 km away.
