Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake 12 km northeast of San Gil, Colombia

4.8 quake 9 Dec 6:14 pm (GMT -5)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 15 minutes ago 12 km northeast of San Gil, Colombia, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 173 km beneath the epicenter near San Gil, Santander, Colombia, early evening on Thursday, December 9th, 2021, at 6:14 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
