An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred only 10 minutes ago 28 miles south of Old Harbor, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5.9 miles beneath the epicenter near Old Harbor, Kodiak Island, Alaska, USA, in the morning on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021, at 8:05 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Old Harbor (pop. 220) located 28 miles from the epicenter, and Akhiok (pop. 72) 39 miles away.
