An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 7 minutes ago 41 km southwest of Golfito, Costa Rica, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Golfito, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, early morning on Friday, June 17th, 2022, at 1:26 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Golfito (pop. 6,800) located 41 km from the epicenter, Corredor (pop. 7,100) 58 km away, Puerto Armuelles (pop. 11,700) 60 km away, Canoas (pop. 4,600) 64 km away, Ciudad Cortés (pop. 3,900) 67 km away, San Vito (pop. 4,000) 69 km away, and San Vito (pop. 4,000) 69 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Concepcion (pop. 17,700) located 87 km from the epicenter, and Buenos Aires (pop. 11,700) 89 km away.
