Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded early morning on Tuesday, June 28th, 2022, at 4:57 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 0.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Cobb (pop. 1,800) located 2 miles from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Clearlake (pop. 15,200) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Russian River (pop. 11,700) 17 miles away, Russian River (pop. 11,700) 17 miles away, Windsor (pop. 27,500) 20 miles away, and Santa Rosa (pop. 175,000) 27 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ukiah (pop. 15,900) located 33 miles from the epicenter, Rohnert Park (pop. 42,400) 34 miles away, and Petaluma (pop. 60,400) 42 miles away.
