Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Mati, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines. The tremor was recorded early morning on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022, at 5:56 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 161 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tarragona (pop. 3,800) located 77 km from the epicenter, Lukatan (pop. 2,600) 77 km away, San Ignacio (pop. 6,300) 78 km away, Bobon (pop. 4,500) 81 km away, Manay (pop. 20,300) 81 km away, Caraga (pop. 4,400) 89 km away, San Pedro (pop. 4,100) 94 km away, and Mati (pop. 105,900) 95 km away.
