Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 69 km north of Nagua, Dominican Republic early afternoon

The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in the Dominican Republic near Nagua, Provincia Maria Trinidad Sanchez, only 24 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Friday, September 9th, 2022, at 3:24 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 6.9 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Cabrera (pop. 4,900) located 40 km from the epicenter, and Rio San Juan (pop. 9,000) 42 km away.
