Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in 'Ohonua (pop. 1,200) located 80 km from the epicenter, Kolonga (pop. 1,100) 94 km away, and Lapaha (pop. 8,000) 99 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nukalofa (pop. 22,400) located 108 km from the epicenter, Nuku'alofa (pop. 22,400) 108 km away, and Haveluloto (pop. 3,400) 109 km away.
