Moderate magnitude 4.7 earthquake 20 km southeast of Onconashari, Peru

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in Peru near Onconashari, Atalaya, Ucayali, only 27 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday, August 4th, 2022, at 10:12 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 9.6 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.

In Onconashari (pop. 140) located 20 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Antonio de Cheni (pop. 660) located 38 km from the epicenter, and Nueva Luz (pop. 690) 40 km away.
