Small 3.7 quake hits near Royan, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred only 16 minutes ago 14 km northwest of Royan, France, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2 km beneath the epicenter near Royan, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, in the morning on Friday, August 5th, 2022, at 9:11 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.

Moderate shaking probably occurred in Arvert (pop. 3,100) located 1 km from the epicenter.
In Etaules (pop. 2,000) located 2 km from the epicenter, and Reunion-sur-Seudre (pop. 5,000) 4 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Marennes (pop. 5,000) located 9 km from the epicenter, and Royan (pop. 19,000) 14 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rochefort (pop. 29,400) located 25 km from the epicenter, Saintes (pop. 29,500) 38 km away, and La Rochelle (pop. 76,800) 47 km away.
