Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes near Loja, Granada, Andalusia, Spain

Just 12 minutes ago, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Loja, Granada, Andalusia, Spain. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Thursday, September 29th, 2022, at 11:14 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 1 km below the surface.

The event was filed by Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.9 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Salar (pop. 2,800) located 1 km from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Loja (pop. 21,600) located 9 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Priego de Cordoba (pop. 23,500) located 34 km from the epicenter, Alcala la Real (pop. 22,800) 36 km away, Granada (pop. 234,300) 39 km away, Vélez-Malaga (pop. 74,200) 42 km away, Antequera (pop. 45,200) 48 km away, and Lucena (pop. 42,200) 48 km away.
