Background
St. George Island is comprised of Tertiary to late-Pleistocene cones and lava flows (Lee-Wong, in Wood and Kienle 1990). An eruption was reported NE of St. George in 1815 but "in spite of these assertations any present volcanic activity must be regarded as doubtful" (Barth 1956).---
