The lava flow from the volcano has now crossed the coastal road and reached the sea, where it forms an active delta, effectively enlarging the island a little bit. The lava flow is of 'a'a type with a typical blocky texture.

In case the lava flow widens and or the eruption intensifies further, authorities have been preparing to evacuate the remaining residents from the village by sea using lifeboats.

In case you are interested to try to see the unique spectacle of a lava flow meeting the sea and the effects of the eruption, we organize a special tour next week 11-16 Feb starting in Manado to observe Karangetang volcano. There are still a few spots available.
