Kerinci volcano (Sumatra, Indonesia): frequent small explosions

The volcano continues to produce frequent, but typically small explosive eruptions. This morning, an ash plume was reported that rose approx. 500 from the summit crater of Indonesia's highest active volcano.
Seismic activity at the volcano indicated that many small explosions are taking place, but most of them are probably not noticed by observers or on satellite data. What the current type of explosive activity is exactly is unknown.
Given the absence of reports of glowing lava or thermal anomalies, it is likely that the activity consists of small to moderate phreatic (steam) explosions caused by overheated ground water under the crater.
