Kirishima volcano (Kyushu Island, Japan): increased seismic activity
Kirishima volcano (Kyushu Island, Japan): increased seismic activity
According to Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA), the seismicity has increased after fluctuating levels of the volcano during the past weeks.
During 19-23 April seismic station records 600 volcano-tectonic earthquakes below the Shinmoedake crater.
No volcanic tremor has been detected.
The risk of an eruption is increasing, fumarolic activity continues.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the crater.

Shinmoedake volcano, located on the Japanese island of Kyushu, erupted explosively on Wednesday 27 June, 2018 after a previous explosion that occurred 5 days before.
