Kizimen volcano news & activity updates

Fri, 28 Dec 2012, 11:05
Yesterday, KVERT declared the official end of the last eruption of Kizimen that had started in Nov 2011 and set the aviation color code back to green, meaning that no explosive ash emissions are expected for the time being. ...more

Seismic activity has gradually decreased recently and is reported low. Video data still showed incandescence from the crater and moderate gas-and-steam activity. Satellite images detected a thermal anomaly over the volcano but the intensity of the anomaly had also gradually decreased and has almost disappeared. On 12 December the Aviation Color Code was lowered to Yellow.
Sun, 2 Dec 2012, 12:05
During 23-30 November moderate seismic activity at Kizimen was detected. Video and satellite images showed lava flows effusing from the summit and the E flank, summit incandescence, strong gas-and-steam activity, and hot avalanches on the S flank. ...more

An explosion earlier today produced an ash plume rising to 17,000 ft (5.2 km) altitude, VAAC Tokyo reports.
Sun, 28 Oct 2012, 09:17
Activity at Kizimen has decreased over the past weeks, but incandescence, steaming and moderate seismicity continue to be registered, confirming that the lava dome remains active.
Tue, 25 Sep 2012, 10:05
Kizimen at 06:03 UTC, 20 September 2012 (KVERT webcam)
Moderate seismicity of the volcano was registered. According to seismic data, ash plumes possibly rose up to 11,800 ft (3.6 km) a.s.l. A recent webcam image captured by Peter Webley from 20 Sep showed and ash plume probably caused by a small pyroclastic flow likely triggered by rock avalanches from the lava flow.

Tue, 21 Aug 2012, 10:05
The lava flow is still active and a thermal anomaly over the volcano is detected by satellite.
Fri, 17 Aug 2012, 10:05
Effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Moderate seismic activity of the volcano was registered all week. Video data and satellite imagery showed that the lava flow continues to effusing on the eastern volcanic flank. Incandescence of the volcano summit, hot avalanches and gas-steam activity accompany the lava flow effusion. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registering over the volcano on August 10, 12 and 15.
Sat, 11 Aug 2012, 08:09
Effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Moderate seismic activity of the volcano was registered all week. Gas-steam activity and incandescence above the lava flow and crater during night-time were observed. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly was registering over the volcano all week.
