Kizimen volcano (Kamchatka) activity update: growing lava dome and incandescent rock avalanches
Thursday Aug 22, 2013 11:46 AM | BY: T
Glowing rock avalanche from Kizimen last night
The lava dome continues to grow at the top of the volcano and produce incandescent rockfalls and small pyroclastic flows, generating ash plumes. A new prominent spine is being extruded at the top and visible on the webcam. The following time-lapse movies show this activity during the day and night:

KVERT reports continuing growth of the lava dome, accompanied by hot avalanches and strong degassing.
Monday, Jul 22, 2013
A rock spine that had been growing at the summit of the active lava dome has collapsed, producing pyroclastic flows and an ash plume rising to 20,000 ft (6 km) altitude. ...

On 15 July, ash plumes were observed drifting 20 nautical miles NW from Batu Tara. ...

The lava dome continues to grow and produce hot avalanches on the western and eastern volcanic flanks. KVERT reports moderate seismicity
Monday, Jul 01, 2013
KVERT reports no changes in activity: moderate seismic activity of the volcano suggests that the growth of an extrusion at the volcano summit continues. Incandescence of the volcano summit, hot avalanches on the western and eastern volcanic flanks, and strong and moderate gas-steam activity accompany this process. (KVERT)
