Krakatoa volcano (Indonesia): new explosion observed this morning

The volcano remains restless and produces small to moderate explosions from time to time (every few days on average): earlier today, VAAC Darwin relayed a ground report of a steam-and-ash plume that rose to 1200 m altitude and drifted NE.
The signal of the explosion can also be seen on the seismic station of the volcano observatory. In addition, a weak thermal signal is again present on MODIS satellite data, which could indicate that the explosion is not only phreatic, but possibly involves magma as well (phreatomagmatic). It remains to be seen how long it will take until new magma reaches the surface and the volcano enters a more continuous phase of activity.
