Steam plumes from Kuchinoerabu-jima volcano today (image: JMA)
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that surveillance cameras observed an eruption on 11 January at 15:05 local time. An eruption generated an ash plumes which reached approx. 8,717 ft (2,657 m) altitude and drifted E. Tepha was ejected as far as 300 m away from the crater.
