Lokon volcano-Empung (North Sulawesi, Indonesia) activity update

The volcano continues produce a large steam plume and sproadic ash explosions, sometimes strong ones: on 25 December, an eruption at 17:24 (local time) caused ash fall up to 6 km away, and a smaller was recorded this morning at 6:15 (local time) and sent a plume of ash to a height of several hundred meters above the Tompaluan crater.

Another explosion occurred at Lokon-Empung at 12:09 local time this morning. The plume from the eruption rose about 3 km. The explosion was so loud that, according to local press articles, it created a mild panic in nearby villages (Kakaskasen, Tomohon). ...

Small to medium-sized explosive ash eruptions continue to occur every 1-3 days (such as on 3, 6, 7 and 9 Dec). Ash plumes observed from ground and by satellite reached estimated 10-17,000 ft (3-5 km) altitude.

Based on information from the VSI (Volcanologal Survey of Indonesia, the Darwin VAAC reported that at 03:00 (local time?) on 26 November, data suggested an ash plume from Lokon-Empung. ...
