Background
The massive, highly eroded Maidu volcano center SW of Lassen National Park was active about 2-0.8 million years ago (Clynne, 1990). The hydrothermally altered andesitic stratovolcano also has erupted rhyolitic rocks, and a dacitic lava-dome field lies on the north flank of the volcanic center.---
