Marapi volcano (Western Sumatra, Indonesia) activity update: frequent small ash emissions
Mount Marapi volcano in West Sumatra had new ash emissions today, a local newspaper reported. "Smoke" (=volcanic ash) was seen being emitted from the summit crater between 8-9 am local time this morning and produced a plume rising about 300 m.

The newspaper notes that since Marapi had become active again on 3 Aug 2011, ash emissions have been occurring almost daily. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) maintains level II alert status (out of 4) for the volcano.

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra continues to produce ash explosions during the past week. According to local news, a few weak explosions on Wednesday were followed by an eruption on Sunday morning produced an ash column about 1 km high, which traveled about 10 km southwards.
