Mount Marapi volcano in West Sumatra had new ash emissions today, a local newspaper reported. "Smoke" (=volcanic ash) was seen being emitted from the summit crater between 8-9 am local time this morning and produced a plume rising about 300 m.
The newspaper notes that since Marapi had become active again on 3 Aug 2011, ash emissions have been occurring almost daily. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) maintains level II alert status (out of 4) for the volcano.
