The Fissure 3 vent contains a small pond of molten rock, where most of the lava is currently confined. The short lava flow, feeding from the vent, has stopped its advance at about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) distance from there.
The main flow front has stagnated 1.9 miles (3 km) from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Saddle Road) and seems to stop being a threat anymore.
According to the HVO scientists, a high eruption rate won't resume based on past eruptive behavior and current behavior suggests that the eruption may end soon.
However, the inflationary trend at the volcano's summit continues, associated with decreased activity. There is a low possibility that the eruption will continue at very low eruptive rates.
Therefore, a decision has been made to reduce the Volcanic Alert Level from "Warning" to "Watch". The Aviation Color Code remains at "Orange".
