HVO recorded 44 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath Mauna Loa volcano's upper elevations. The strongest was a magnitude-2.2 on the 16th of February, at approximately 7 kilometers (around 4 miles) below the surface. This was deeper than most of the earthquakes which occurred at depths of less than 5 kilometers (around 3 miles) beneath the surface of the volcano. The volcano continues to inflate, due to magma being supplied to the volcano’s shallow storage region. Gas concentrations and fumarole temperatures remain stable.
