Merapi volcano (Central Java, Indonesia): moderate explosion today

After a phase of relative calm since mid April, another explosion occurred at the volcano earlier today, at around noon local time
Our correspondent Andi observed the explosion which produced an ash column that rose approx. 2 km above the summit crater of the volcano, where a new lava dome has been growing slowly for almost the past two years.
