Merapi volcano (Central Java, Indonesia) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 12 January-18 January 2022 (Continuing Activity)
BPPTKG reported no significant morphological changes at Merapi's lava domes, located just below the SW rim and in the summit crater, during 6-13 January. The intensity of the seismic signals remained at high levels. As many as 123 lava avalanches traveled a maximum of 2.2 km SW down the Bebeng drainage, and four pyroclastic flows traveled a maximum of 2.5 km SW. ... Read all

Merapi volcano (Java, Indonesia): field report, growing lava dome triggers pyroclastic flows
Visual field observations during 30 Dec-5 Jan of our expedition leader and guide from VolcanoDiscovery Indonesia, Andi Volcanist, reported many pyroclastic density currents of which one large rockfall event occurred. Glowing lava blocks detached from the active lava dome and spread out over the southwestern slope reaching length of 2000 m. Read all
