New elongated island with reduced area 22 000 m² (image: Sentinel 2/Copernicus/Culture Volcano)
According to a news article the new island is about 100 m wide and 400 m long and had emerged at a location 120 m away from the former island. The article noted that the eruption had ceased.

Since last update on 17 October The Wellington VAAC reported that on 22 October pilots observed intermittent white plumes rising from Metis Shoal (Lateiki) to 3.7 km (12,000 ft). There was no ash signature in the plumes. Read all
