Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 21500 ft (6600 m) altitude or flight level 215 .

Nevado del Ruiz volcano (Colombia) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 17 May-23 May 2023 (Continuing Activity)

Servicio Geológico Colombiano's (SGC) Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Manizales reported that the eruption at Nevado del Ruiz continued during 17-23 May and was characterized by periodic gas, steam, and ash emissions, thermal anomalies at the lava dome in Arenas Crater, and elevated seismicity. Seismic signals indicating rock-fracturing events were located 3-8 km around the Arenas Crater at depths of 1-6 km.
