A small eruption might have occurred at Nevado del Ruiz prior to 14:47 GMT yesterday 15 Nov. As a precaution for aviation, Washington VAAC issued an alert of possible ash in the atmosphere. The report itself was based on the detection of a small hot spot on satellite imagery and seismic data. No ash could be identified on satellite images due to cloud cover and darkness, and the local volcano observatory has not (yet) confirmed any new eruption. [more]
