: An intense seismic crisis started at Bárdarbunga volcano on 16 August 2014 and is continuing at the time of writing (23 Aug). It may or may not lead to a volcanic eruption, possibly under the Vatnajökull ice cap.

Depth vs time of recent quakes in Iceland (image: VolcanoDiscovery)
The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) recorded an earthquake with magnitude M 4.8
at 9.1 km depth in Bárðarbunga volcano at 00:06 local time yesterday. Few smaller aftershocks have been detected in the area. Tremor has not shown significant variations. The earthquakes of this magnitude (M 4.8) were detected in April and January this year. Read more...

Icelandic Met Office (IMO) recorded an earthquake with magnitude M 3.0
at 2.4 km depth beneath the SE caldera. In one hour later an earthquake M 3.3 occurred in similar location. Last time an M 3.0 or larger earthquake occurred about a month ago. Read more... Lees alle

an earthquake with magnitude M 3.4
was detected by the seismic network in the Bardarbunga caldera, one aftershock of M 1.2 followed. Tremor has not shown significant variations. Read more...
