An explosion on 14 July produced an ash plume rising to 7,000 ft (2.1 km) altitude and drfting 40 km to the NW.

The volcano remains active with often powerful strombolian explosions, and perhaps the effusion of a lava flow. An elongated thermal hot spot as well as a weak white steam plume visible on recent satellite images suggest that a lava flow might be active from the crater of the volcano these days.

A stronger strombolian explosion produced an ash plume rising to 5,000 ft / 1.5 km this morning, which drifted 15 nautical miles to the NW (VAAC Darwin).
