Two more explosive eruptions occurred last night and today, following yesterday's event after only 8 hours pause.
The first, smaller explosion occurred yesterday afternoon at about 15:46 AKST local time (00:46 UTC) and produced an ash plume that rose to approx. 25,000 ft (7.5 km) altitude.
Another explosive eruption began at the volcano at this morning at 04:26 AKST (13:26 UTC), and generated a plume that was at least as high as the previous one. Seismic data suggest that the main ash emissions lasted for several minutes and seismicity is currently low again. (AVO)

Changes of Bogoslof Island during the recent series of explosions; The January 30-31, 2017 eruptive activity generated roughly 0.4 square kilometers of new land and as of January 31, 2017, the island area was 1.02 square kilometers, roughly three times the size of the pre-eruption island. Nearly all of this new material consists of unconsolidated pyroclastic fall and flow (surge) deposits that are highly susceptible to wave erosion and thus additional changes in the configuration of the island are likely. The volcano continues to produce large explosions at intervals of 1-3 days. The latest eruption began at 01:41 UTC on February 4 (16:41, February 3 AKST) produced a small volcanic ash plume that was observed on satellite and moved towards the north over the Bering Sea at an altitude of less than 25,000 ft above sea level. ...
