Towards the end of the second eruption of Etna in 2017 (15-20 March), an unusual phenomenon occurred: the lower lava flow, originating from the 2900 m fissure vent at the base of the SE crater and descending into the Valle del Bove from its western rim at 2500 m elevation, produced a series of small to moderate pyroclastic flows, associated with dense ash plumes. ...
